Video controller driver missing
I reinstalled windows xp. Im missing my ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller, video controller (vga compatible). I'm using ASUS Motherboard model is P4 P800-VM. I lost my motherboadr cd. I have downloaded audio driver and VGA from ASUS site it works well. But i also tryed the LAN driver from ASUS site but it did not has setup files, so i dont have idea how to istall it.
So my laptop just froze, I had to delete the AMD GPU drivers through safe mode, because otherwise it would've been stuck in boot loop.
Can't install anything AMD related, because that equals instant PC freeze and crash.
I see through the Device Manager, that Video Controller driver is missing. How do I install it and where can I get it?
I have AMD Radeon HD 8870M dedicated GPU and Intel HD Graphics 400 onboard graphics on my laptop (Samsung Chronos 7).
Edit: I have Windows 10.
Hello Dulanjana,
Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community Forum.
As per the description, I understand that your computer is unable to detect nVidia GeForce 310M graphic card, device manager does not show it there as well andwhile trying to install the driver you get “This graphic driver could not find compatible graphic hardware” error message.

I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better.
- Out of these two graphic cards ( nVidia and Intel), which one is the default graphic card?
- Have you recently added this additional graphics card?
This problem can appear if the video card is not installed properly in the PCI slot and as a result the card is not detected in device manager. Check the physical connections again, reinsert the card properly in the PCI slot and then install the drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
If the video card is installed properly in Video card but still the problem persists, let’s try these methods below and check if that solves the problem.
Method 1:
First, I would suggest you to run the following Microsoft Fixit to get the problem automatically detected and fixed. This fixit checks if the device is currently disabled or turned off or the driver is not installed.
Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows.
Method 2:
Sometimes, some devices in device manager are hidden due to corrupt or missing drivers.
Follow the steps below to show hidden devices in the device manager and troubleshoot accordingly.
- Press the Windows key + X
- Select Command Prompt (Admin)
- Type setdevmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and hit enter
- Type Start DEVMGMT.MSC and hit enter.
- Once in Device Manager hit the View menu and select show hidden devices.
From here, remove each instance of the Nvidia card you see as well as each unknown device. Exit Device Manager and reinstall the latest drivers you can find for your graphics card.

After you install the drivers, reboot and see if you get any different results.
Method 3:
If methods suggested above does not help, I would recommend you to contact ASUS to get chipset, BIOS, graphics card, drivers installed properly.
